Testimonials

“You've (Ella) been an amazing math tutor for <my daughter>. Your support in getting her through the challenges of remote learning, teacher shortages, and the beginning of high school has been so helpful. We credit your tutoring sessions for building the confidence that she has today in math. You will be missed but her foundation is solid and we feel assured that she now has the tools to work through the increasingly complex concepts coming her way.

I am incredibly impressed that you have been doing this for the past three years as a college student. You have never missed a session, always been flexible when asked, and professionally reminded us before and recapped every single session after. Your dedication and focus to do all of this while juggling the numerous demands of college is amazing to me. ”

We feel extremely lucky to have her (Vali) working with our girls as it is very special and unique to find a female math coach whose mission is to "empower girls to not be afraid of and excel at math!"”

“Vali's rigorous approach is balanced perfectly with her easy-going demeanor and welcoming style. Fiona loves her sessions and has become MUCH more comfortable with taking on challenging math assignments! Thank you Vali!”

Sashi is a miracle worker and incredibly reliable.  Most importantly, she makes math fun.  Our 9-year-old, Flora, started working with Sashi when she was really struggling with her math homework and routinely professed to hate math.  After just a few sessions, we began to hear Flora have ‘aha moments’ when working with Sashi.  Sometimes she would go as far as to say she loved math.

Sashi brings a set of math activities to each tutoring session. Her use of Zoom is highly interactive and keeps Flora engaged.  When selecting areas of focus or math activities, Sashi is thorough in her assessment of Flora's skills and takes input (sample school curriculum, challenging homework problems) from us and Flora.  Sashi follows each session with a useful summary email.

Nine months later we’ve chosen to continue to work with Sashi via Zoom because doing so really boosts our daughter’s confidence and homework is now a breeze. Just today Flora finished working with Sashi and said, "It went so fast, I didn’t even look at the clock.  We were playing restaurant, which is math, even though it doesn’t sound like it."

Vali and Tia are a wonderful team. Tia is a skilled, warm, thoughtful tutor and she uses zoom very effectively to keep my daughter engaged. As a career educator myself, I'm impressed with how deeply Vali and Tia understand the math curriculum 'landscape' as well as what is needed to help kids move through moments of challenge. I'm grateful we connected with Math4Girls and I see positive results in my daughter's willingness to keep learning and growing in a challenging school math program.”

“The tutoring is going really well. Tia is nimble and resourceful in finding zones of challenge for Ronin - which is great for Ronin's developing sense of herself as a mathematician. Tia also does a great job making sure Ronin has really understood/mastered the topic areas in class.”

“Our daughter has really enjoyed and benefitted from Vali's math clubs and one-on-one tutoring. Vali has a wonderful rapport with the girls, encouraging them to develop their logic and problem-solving skills, and build confidence along the way. She is extremely well versed in Common Core math, and helps to demystify complicated concepts for my sixth grader. We feel fortunate to have found Vali and highly recommend her.“

"Sashi is an amazing teacher . As an 11 year old girl in a pandemic, it has been helpful for me to learn on my own and focus on different things than what my class is working on. I can work on things ahead of my class but right for me, or I could do it the other way around. The way she explains things is very helpful. She allows me to explain my thinking then we go through it together, something that is very helpful to my learning style. Overall this is an amazing class and I am so grateful I found it!"

“Math Club for Girls has been a unique and special place for my daughter to grow her love of math. She started out a little frustrated and timid about her math skills and over time has confidence in knowing she has a consistent place to come each week to ask questions and get help from Vali as well as her peers. She now loves working with math  as much as her other subjects and is discovering that it can actually be fun. Thank you for caring for the kids each week and helping them create a love for math!“

— Cynthia H., Mom to 4th grade girl in math club

“Before starting Math 4 Girls my 3rd grade daughter had started saying that she hated math and was no good at it. Since starting Math 4 Girls she has had a complete transformation and says she loves math  both in school and at Math 4 Girls. Her teacher also noticed her increased confidence   in math! Vali is amazing!“

Ella has been instrumental in our daughter's math education for the past year. She is personable, smart, professional, and knows how math is currently taught in schools. Importantly, our daughter enjoys sessions with Ella and feels comfortable seeking her help. Supplementing classroom lessons with weekly sessions with Ella has been invaluable in building our daughter's math knowledge and confidence.

“Thank you so much for the update! Violet is really enjoying the 1-on-1 time and continues to express that she’s learning so much with you. Thanks Tia! Violet said tutoring was fun and said she learned more than she learns at school. We were both happy about that.”

— Brigitta D., Mom to 5th grade girl in private tutoring

“Our daughter began math club completely unsure of herself and her abilities. From the get-go, she left math club by bounding down Vali's front stairs, very excited to share what she'd done with me. She proudly displays her work after each session and considers herself a mathematician.“

— Leslie C., Mom to 3rd grade girl in math club

“My daughter says math is her favorite subject  and looks forward to attending math club every week. She loves the fun and camaraderie, and I love the extra opportunity for her to strengthen her skills and receive positive reinforcement that girls and math are a natural fit.  Her school math teacher said that she is flexible in her problem-solving approach and perseveres - two skills that math club has really honed.“

— Laura M., Mom to 6th Grade math club girl

“Vali instilled confidence in my girl and made her enjoy math a lot more. Her teachers noticed the improvements quickly in class. Most importantly, she is having fun with math which is awesome!“
